The Love of Ahl al Baith


♦ Hazrath Yazid bin Hayyan (RadhiAllahu Anhu) reported Holy Prophet (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: 

I am leaving among you two weighty things: the one being the Book of Allah in which there is right guidance and light, so hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it. He exhorted (us) (to hold fast) to the Book of Allah and then said: The second are the members of my household I remind you (of your duties) to the members of my family.

​♦ Hazrath Jabir ibn Abdullah (RadhiAllahu Anhu) narrated:

I observed Allah’s Messenger (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) during his Hajj on the day of Arafah, delivering a sermon while he was seated on his she-camel Qaswa. I heard him say, “0 people, I leave behind with you that to which if you stick, you will not go astray-the Book of Allah and my relatives of my household.

​♦ Hazrath Umar ibn Abu Salamah (RadhiAllahu Anhu) stepson of the Holy Prophet (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) reported about this verse:

Allah only desires to take away from you all abomination, 0 people of the household, and to purify you with a thuorough purifying. It was revealed to the Holy Prophet (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) in the house of Sayyidah Umm Salamah (RadhiAllahu Anhu) So, the Holy Prophet (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) called Sayyidah Fatimah (RadhiAllahu Anha) Hasan and Husayn and covered them with a sheet of cloth, while Ali was behind him. So, he put the sheet of cloth over them and said, “0 Allah, they are the people of my house. Remove from them abomination and purify them a complete purifying.”Hazrath Umm Salamah (RadhiAllahu Anhu) said, “And I am with them, 0 Messenger of Allah!” He said, “You are in your place and you are on the goad.”

​♦ Hazrath Zayd ibn Arqam (Radiyallahu Anhu) reported

Holy Prophet (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, I am leaving behind with you that to which if you hold fast, you will not go astray after my death. One of them is mightier than the other the Book of Allah, a rope hanging down from the heaven to earth. And (the other), is my family-people of my household. Both of them will not separate till they come to me at the pond. So, watch out how you represent me in them.

​♦ Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (RadiAllahu Anhu) reported

Holy Prophet (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, Love Allah, for He gives you sustenance from His bounties. And love me, because of Allah’s love, and love the people of my house, because of my love.

♦ Hazrath Buraydah (RadiAllahu Anhu) reported that the dearest to Allah’s Messenger (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) among women was Fatimah and among men was Ali. Ibrahim said that this meant from ‘people of his household.’

♦ ​Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said to Ali, Fatimah, Hasan and Husain, “I will fight against whom you fight and make peace with whom you make peace.”

​♦ Hazrath Umm Salamah (RadiAllahu Anha) reported that the Holy Prophet (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) put a cloak over Hasan, Husayn, Ali and Fatimah and prayed, “O Allah, they are people of my house and closest to me. Remove from them evil and purify them a perfect purification.” Umm Salamah (RadiAllahu Anha) submitted, “I too am with them, O Messenger of Allah!” He said, “Indeed you are on what is good.”

♦ Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah (RadiAllahu Anhu): Jabir saw Allah's Messenger (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) when performing the hajj seated on his she-camel al-Qaswa' on the day of Arafah giving an address, and he heard him saying, “O people, I have left among you something of such a nature that if you adhere to it you will not go astray: Allah's Book and my close relatives who belong to my household.”

​♦ Behold! My Ahl al-Bayt are like the Ark of Noah. Whoever embarked on it was saved, and whoever turned away from it perished.

​♦ Umar bin Abi Salamah (RadhiAllahu Anhu) who was brought up by the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) narrates that when the verse, “Allah only desires to keep away (all kinds of) impurity from you, O ‘people of the house!’ (the Prophet’s family) and to totally purify you,” (al-Ahzab 33:33), was revealed to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) at the home of Umm Salamah (RadhiAllahu Anhu) he (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) called Fatimah RadhiAllahu AnhaاللہRadhi, Hasan (RadhiAllahu Anhu)and Husain (RadhiAllahu Anhu) and covered them with a cloak. Ali (RadhiAllahu Anhu) was behind him (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) also covered him under the same cloak and then said, “Oh Allah! These are my ahl-ul-bait (‘people of the house’) so keep impurity away from them and totally purify them.”

♦ Ans bin Malik (RadhiAllahu Anhu) narrates that when the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) used to come out for Fajr (dawn) prayer, as he passed the door of Fatimah (RadhiAllahu Anha) he used to say, “O ‘people of the house’, perform your prayer” and then he used to recite the following verse from the Holy Quran: “Allah only desires to keep away (all kinds of) impurity from you, O ‘people of the house’! (the Prophet’s family) and to totally purify you,”

​♦ Safiyyah the daughter of Shaybah narrates that Ayisha (RadhiAllahu Anha) said, “The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) came out one morning wearing a cloak which had camel saddles woven on to it with black wool. Then Hasan bin Ali (RadhiAllahu Anhu) came and the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) took him under the cloak, then Husain (RadhiAllahu Anhu) came and entered beneath it with the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) .Then Fatimah (RadhiAllahu Anha) came and the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) took her under the cloak. Next Ali (RadhiAllahu Anhu) came and the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) also included him beneath it. Then the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) recited the verse, ‘Allah only desires to keep away (all kinds of) impurity from you, O ‘people of the house!’ (the Prophet’s family) and to totally purify you,’ (al-Ahzab 33:33).”

♦ ​Abu Saeed Khudri RadhiAllahu Anhu has said about the verse, “Allah only desires to keep away (all kinds of) impurity from you, O ‘people of the house’!…”, that it was revealed in honour of the following five personalities: the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), Ali RadhiAllahu Anhu, Fatimah RadhiAllahu Anhu, Hasan RadhiAllahu Anhu and Husain RadhiAllahu Anhu .
