Kabr Ziyarat (Visiting the Graves)


♣ Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said:

I forbade you to visit graves, but you may now visit them.


Narrated by Ibn Buraida (RadhiAllahu Anhu)​​

Sahih Muslim - 2131


♣ Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said,

I prohibited you from visiting the graves, but (now) you may visit them

♣ Whenever it was her turn to spend the night with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), he used to go to the Baqi (graveyard) in the last portion of the night and say: “May you be safe, O abode of the believing people. What you have been promised has come to you. You are tarried till tomorrow and certainly we shall follow you if Allah wills. O Allah, forgive the inmates of the Baqi-al-Gharqad.”

♣ “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) gave permission in the visitation of graves.

♣ Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said,

I had disallowed you to visit graves. Now, indeed, Muhammad has been permitted to visit the grave of his mother. So, you (too) visit graves, for, that reminds of the Hereafter.

♣ The people were gripped by famine during the tenure of Hazrath Umar RadhiAllahu Anhu. Then a man walked up to the grave of Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and said: Ya RasoolAllah! ask for rain from Allah for your Ummah who is in dire straits. Then he saw the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم in dream. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said to him, Go over to Umar, give him my greeting and tell him that the rain will come to you. Tell him: “You must be clever (cautious), you must be clever” The man went and told Umar. On hearing this Umar broke into a spurt of crying and said: "O ALLAH, I spare no effort except in what escapes my power!“

♣ Once Abu-Ayyub Ansari RadhiAllahu Anhu came to grave of Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and put his face on the grave. Caliph of that time, Marwan saw him and asked him “Do you know what are you doing ?”Abu Ayyub Ansari RadhiAllahu Anhu replied: “YES (I know what i am doing) because I came to Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and not to a stone”

♣ Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said,

Whoever visits my grave after my death it is same as him visiting me in my life.

♣ Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said,

Whosoever visits my grave then my intercession becomes Wajib (Obligation) for him.
